OUR STORY

From a Garden Shed to Mirror Forest

It started with reclaimed timber, a couple of old mirrors and an idea.

Where It All Began

01 · EARLY 2019

Where It All Began

Mirror Forest began in early 2019, in my dad’s small garden shed. I was working a normal 9-to-5 job and spending my evenings experimenting with reclaimed timber using basic tools. I had no joinery experience, no professional equipment and no real plan to start a business. I simply enjoyed making things. Most of what I learned came through trial and error — measuring, cutting, getting things wrong and trying again. I had no idea those evenings in the shed would eventually become Mirror Forest. From Shelves To Mirrors

02 · STARTING SMALL

From Shelves To Mirrors

The first things I made were rustic wooden shelves from reclaimed timber, which I started selling on eBay. Then one day, my dad had a couple of old, weathered mirrors lying around. Rather than throwing them away, I started experimenting with reclaimed timber to see if I could build wooden frames around the glass. The first mirrors were rough, Very rough. But they worked. I listed one on eBay — and it sold.

One Mirror Became Another

03 · THE BEGINNING OF MIRROR FOREST

One Mirror Became Another

That first sale changed everything. I began sourcing unwanted mirrors locally, salvaging the glass and building new solid timber frames around them. With every mirror, the designs improved, the finishes got better and more orders followed. What started as evenings in Dad’s shed soon became regular orders, with Mirror Forest growing alongside my full-time job.

From The Shed to Our First Workshop

As orders grew and the mirrors got bigger, what started as an evening hobby was quickly becoming a real business. I made the decision to quit my 9-to-5 and give Mirror Forest everything I had. I moved from Dad’s garden shed into my first proper workshop, giving me the space for bigger mirrors, better equipment and more ambitious designs. What started with reclaimed timber and a few basic tools had become Mirror Forest.

Making Them Was Only Half the Challenge

05 · LEARNING AS WE GREW

Making Them Was Only Half the Challenge

As orders grew, so did the challenge of getting our mirrors to customers safely. Glass isn’t forgiving, and early damages pushed us to find a better way. Through trial and error, we tested different materials, methods and packaging designs until we developed our own bespoke packaging system. Today, every mirror is carefully protected for its journey across the UK. You could say we became just as good at packaging mirrors as we did at making them.

06 · MIRROR FOREST TODAY

A Lot Has Changed. Our Principles Haven't.

A lot has changed since 2019, but the principles behind Mirror Forest haven’t. From reclaimed materials in a garden shed to a dedicated workshop, we’ve grown while continuing to refine our craft. We still believe in real timber, handmade details and creating mirrors that are built to last. Every Mirror Forest mirror carries a little of where we started. And we’re still building.
